Varnishing

The application of the paint and/or varnish is one of the most important stages of production. The current types of waterbased finishes (without synthetic solvents) together with the coating cycle in three stages, achieve the best performance and offer many advantages:

Longer life on exterior exposure (twice that of any synthetic coating)
Good penetration into the wood grain
No flaking
Elasticity and resistance to scratches and abrasion and foot traffic
better protection from the action of biological organisms
Non-yellowing coating film
Gloss retention and colour stability
Excellent clarity of the topcoats
excellent re-coating
low impact on the environment

More specifically, the coating process consists of several stages:
• mechanical brushing and hand sanding of the bare wood
• application of the stain* in flow-coating (1st cycle) and drying
• application of the transparent basecoat or primer** in flow-coating (2nd cycle) and drying
• hand sanding and further inspection of the components
• airless spray application of the single-component topcoat*** (3rd cycle) and drying

* Transparent or coloured stain first coat that penetrates into the wood pores, changing the characteristics of the surface without forming a film. It is used to protect the wood from biological organisms and to reduce the destructive action of solar radiation;
** Also called sealer, this intermediate product allows sanding, preserving the items colour, and makes a solid bonding of the topcoat;
*** Final coat applied to the basecoat. It can be clear or pigmented and gloss or mat and produces a surface film with excellent aesthetic features and protective functions against several chemical and physical problems which wood is exposed to.
